Bohunt School has been given, by the Regional Schools Commissioner, permission to move from 11-16 to 11-18 in September 2017.
The new 6th form building is a separate learning environment from the lower school creating a bridge between school and further education, especially University life.
The new building is three storeys high, providing 824sqm gross area on each floor. The building has 22 teaching spaces including Science rooms, Music studios, an IT suite, and a drama/lecture theatre.
The students will take responsibility for their learning and can study in the LRC which includes 4 seminar rooms. In study breaks the students can relax in the Cafe and external Social Area.
The new Staffroom at Bohunt School is the refurbishment of two old IT classrooms. We took down the dividing wall to open up the space giving the staff a kitchenette, seating and socialising area, and computer area at the end of the room for working.
The new area provides the school with an area for staff meetings as well as somewhere for different departments to socialise.
Bohunt School's continual growth in student numbers requires additional classrooms to accommodate the increase in demand.
The new 12 classroom block includes 6 Science rooms, 2 IT Suites and 4 general use classrooms. The new classroom block is 2 storeys high, provide 537sqm GIF on each floor. The design of the building is simple to allow the budget to be spent on functional and spacious classrooms.
Built alongside the new science block at Bohunt school is a new multi-purpose hall. Due to the schools increase in student numbers this space provides additional:
Sporting facilities such as netball, basketball, volleyball, and 4 badminton courts.
A kitchen with serving hatches allowing students to collect lunches from inside or outside.
A space for exams and performances/presentations.
...an impressive light-filled, double–height atrium space...
This project involved the construction of a new two-storey classroom block at Bohunt School. The building is 750sqm total area with mechanical and electrical services, external works and drainage. Construction cost were finalized at £1,200 per sqm.
The 7 classroom block had to squeeze into the space between existing buildings, a challenge to design comfortably sized teaching spaces without overshadowing or impinging on existing pathways. The curtain wall allows light to filter into the main circulation space, creating a impressive light-filled, double-height atrium space in which students can socialise.
A new two storey bock of 1274 sqm. The project included a new 1240 sqm car park.
The project exceeded the 10% renewables requirement of Surrey County Council by achieving 17% of its energy requirement from a ground source heat pump. This has been achieved by designing the building envelope well in excess of current Building Regulation requirements, and by careful lighting design. Under floor heating is used throughout the building. Natural ventilation was used extensively in the building.
The outcome of all this careful design work is that we produced a building that has only half the peak heating load that would normally be expected from a building of this type
